The Hunley Comes to Shasta County October 10th-15th
CSS H.L. Hunley
Disappearing to the bottom of Charleston Harbor after its successful attack on the U.S. Warship
Housatonic in February 1864, the Confederate submarine, the H.L. Hunley was lost for decades, until
its recovery in 2000.  Before its final voyage, the submarine had claimed the lives of three crews,
including its namesake and financier. It is now resting in a special tank in Charleston, S.C., where
historians keep this naval marvel preserved.
Now you have an opportunity to go back in time and learn the full history of that night for yourself.
Members of the Friends of the Hunley are bringing a full scale, working replica of the CSS H.L. Hunley
to the Redding area to educate the public on the world's first successful combat submarine.  Clothed in
authentic attire, narrators actually tell the story of the Hunley while siting inside this incredible model.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience history on such a personal and realistic level.
Due to the massive cost of this event, we are looking for businesses to donate money to bring this
event to the Northstate. This includes room and board for the two narrators in the presentation.  More
information is available below.  All profits from the event will go to benefit the RACW and help bring
educational events to Northern California.
